Background & Experience:
Dr. Merola holds both a medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine and a Master of Medical Sciences degree from Harvard Medical School. Before his current role, he was a Vice Chair and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he founded the Clinical Unit for Research Innovation and Trials (CUReIT) and led the Center for Skin and Related Musculoskeletal Diseases. His training includes residencies in Internal Medicine and Dermatology, a Rheumatology fellowship, and multiple leadership roles in clinical research and education.

Dr. Merola is an internationally recognized expert in the treatment of complex inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, specializing in psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, connective tissue diseases such as lupus, and dermatomyositis. His strategic insights in these areas enable clients to navigate the intricacies of therapeutic landscapes with confidence.

As a Faculty Expert at MTC³, Dr. Merola provides clients with high-level guidance and customized analysis, helping them address challenging dermatological needs. His leadership and knowledge support MTC³ in delivering expert-driven, client-centered consulting services.

Dr. Merola’s extensive involvement with major organizations includes serving on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology, as president-elect of GRAPPA, and as a councilor for the International Eczema Council and International Psoriasis Council. He is also the Founding President of the Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Clinics Multicenter Advancement Network Consortium (PPACMAN) and has held advisory roles with the National Psoriasis Foundation, American Skin Association, and Lupus Foundation of America, among others.

With over 340 peer-reviewed publications and numerous awards, including the National Psoriasis Foundation’s Outstanding Educator Award, Dr. Merola’s contributions have significantly shaped research and clinical practices in dermatology and rheumatology.
